40 starts off with a couple of military men.
Clint Taylor, a linebacker in 2008, was the first to wear 40. Clint was one of the most fearless players to ever put on a Cy Woods uniform. Everything he did on the field, game or practice, was done at breakneck speed. He was never one to back down from his opponents. Clint also competed as a pole vaulter on the Wildcat track team and jointly holds the record with Sam Landingham; they have both cleared 14 feet on the vault.
Clint successfully walked on at Texas State, but he eventually answered the call to serve and became a Marine, serving tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Travis Strahan, another linebacker, wore 40 in 2009. He was also a featured actor in the Cy Woods theater program; his younger brothers, Trevor and Trent, followed in his footsteps and became actors at Cy Woods. While at the University of Texas, Travis joined the ROTC program and is now an infantryman in the United States Army.

Chase McLaughlin, a kicker, wore 40 when he was promoted to the playoffs as a sophomore in 2011 and wore this number full-time in 2012. He switched to #11 for his senior year. More on him when I get to 11.

Blake LeBlanc, a backup linebacker, wore 40 in 2013. Later on that season, Morgan Tosten, then a linebacker, was given this number when he was called up. He switched to #69 and was a defensive end in 2014, his senior year.
