Maclaren "Mac" Bird, a linebacker, made the varsity in 2017, his junior year. He racked up 51 tackles in just four games before he had a serious health scare that stemmed from clearing debris from Hurricane Harvey. His older brother, Trent, was a linebacker and a pole vaulter at Cy Woods. Their sister, Cameron, plays basketball and also pole vaults. If I remember correctly, their father, Scott, competed collegiately as a pole vaulter and he ended up passing it down to his kids. Mac currently holds Cy Woods' record clearance in the pole vault.
