Yousef Alzibdeh was the starting left guard in 2018. His older brother, Mohammad, played as an offensive lineman in 2012 and 2013.

Ethan Gonzales, a linebacker, wore #50 in 2019. He was mainly a special teams player for the Wildcats.

Cy Woods All-Time Roster: Number 51

Two more posts before we wrap up the 50s.

Joey Khaled, a backup defensive lineman in 2008, was the first Wildcat to wear 51.

Logan LaMontagne, a backup offensive lineman in 2013, was the next player to wear 51. He mainly played as a tackle.

Koltin Sabrsula, an offensive lineman, wore 51 in 2014. His younger brother, Konner, currently plays for the Cats as an A-back.

Cy Woods All-Time Roster: Number 52

Gabe Zavala, a backup defensive tackle in 2009, was the first player to wear #52.

Jordan Jones entered Cy Woods as a linebacker, but he finished as a starting defensive lineman. He made the varsity in 2011, his junior year, and was a key backup (mostly as a defensive tackle) as part of a deep defensive line. He was a starting defensive end as a senior. His mother, Karla (I know her as Mrs. Fleming-Jones, or Mrs. FJ), was an English teacher at Cy Woods; she was my AP English III (Language) teacher in my junior year.

At the collegiate level, Jordan played at Mississippi College, a Division II school located in Clinton, Mississippi, just outside of the capital, Jackson.

Jamal Kinard was a guard in 2012, his junior year, and wore #75. As a senior in 2013, he became the starting center and changed to #52.

Trevor Reed, a defensive lineman, was called up in 2016, his sophomore year, and was given this number. He wore #97 as a junior in 2017.

Braeden Barrett, an offensive lineman, was given this number when he was called up as a sophomore in 2018. He switched to #58 in 2019.

Ryne Sterns wore 52 and 87 in 2019, his junior year. He started that season as an offensive lineman before transitioning into a blocking tight end later in the year.

Now on to 53.

The first player to wear 53 was Daniel Howell, a linebacker in 2008.

Another backup linebacker, Derek Whitmire, wore #53 in 2009. Derek was also a top actor in the Cy Woods theatre program. His younger brother, Daniel, played linebacker at Cy Ranch.

Ethan Agnew was called up in 2016, his sophomore year, and played various positions on the offensive line before becoming the starting center for 2.5 years. Ethan was a first-team District 14-6A selection as a senior in 2018. His younger brother, Chris, plays as a defensive lineman.

Cy Woods All-Time Roster: Number 54

The countdown continues with #54.

Matt Ferguson, the starting center in 2008, was the first Wildcat to wear #54. He was a second-team All-District 15-5A performer that season.

Brandon Kula was a midseason call-up in 2013 and became a key backup on the offensive line (mostly as a tackle) as a senior in 2014. His effort was particularly instrumental in the win against Cy-Fair. Brandon also played baseball for the Wildcats.

Cy Woods All-Time Roster: Number 55

The countdown rolls on with number 55. Have a happy and safe Fourth of July, everybody.

Shane Allbright, a backup center in 2008, was the first to wear #55.

Justin Scott, a backup linebacker/defensive end, wore #55 in 2009. He was a transfer from Jersey Village. We used to call him Yoshi because we thought that he bore a strong resemblance to the green dinosaur/lizard from the Super Mario universe.

Terran "Tank" Alves was a nose tackle who made the varsity in 2010, his junior year. He saw playing time in the defensive line rotation that year, but unfortunately, he was unable to find that form again as a senior. He also competed in powerlifting and holds the records (still standing) in the weight room for the press lifts (bench and incline).

Jake Gates, a guard who also played a little center, made the varsity as a junior in 2013. He was mainly a backup in his two seasons on the varsity.

Cy Woods All-Time Roster: Number 56

And now, on to 56.

Nick Goynes, an offensive lineman in 2008, was the first player to wear #56. Nick is another Wildcat who answered the call to serve; he joined the Marines after graduating and served a tour in Afghanistan.

Scott Wiesmann, a starting guard, wore #56 in 2009. I have known Scott since fifth grade and the one thing I remember most about him is that he is a die-hard Packers fan.

A converted defensive lineman, Scott was selected to serve as a team captain in 2009 and, after Cy Woods, he played as a tight end for the University of Saint Mary, an NAIA school in Kansas. 

Scott is currently an algebra teacher, the offensive line coach, and a JV basketball coach at Tomball Memorial High School.

The next two players to wear #56 did so for more than one season.

Tyler Mock, an offensive lineman, made the Opening Night roster as a sophomore in 2009, but he was mainly a JV player that season. 

A tackle, Tyler became a full-time varsity player in 2010 and earned valuable playing time as the Wildcats rotated many linemen. That experience proved valuable for him as he eventually became the starting right tackle as a senior in 2011. Against Cy-Fair in 2011, Tyler wore #57, as the #56 jersey (the home red) had a snafu that needed to be fixed.

Logan Wright was an offensive lineman who made the varsity in 2012, his junior year. He was a left tackle who also played center on occasion.

Nolan Thompson, better known as Niko, wore #73 in 2018, his first year on the varsity. He switched to #56 as a senior and primarly served as a backup and an occasional starter at guard.

The countdown continues with number 57.

Forrest King, a backup linebacker in 2008, was the first player to wear 57.

Jacob Snow was the next player to wear #57; he was a defensive end in 2009.

Caleb Brimmage, a backup center, served as the long snapper in 2013. His older brother, Jacob, was a running back in 2010. Caleb is now long-snapping for Southwestern University in Georgetown.

Cy Woods All-Time Roster: Number 58

First day of July. The countdown is now at 58.

Will Pierce, a defensive end in 2008, was the first player to wear #58. He was one of the main backups on the defensive line that year.

Cole Gunderson made the varsity in 2009, his junior year, and eventually became a two-year starter at center. He was selected to serve as a team captain during his senior year in 2010. Cole also competed in track & field for the Wildcats as a shot putter and a discus thrower.

After Cy Woods, Cole went to England to serve as a missionary, in accordance with the Mormon faith. He returned to America in 2013. His younger sister, Paige, was a volleyball player and was also a thrower for the Wildcats. Another sister, Haley, was a WildThing and the student council president during her senior year. He also has a younger brother, Brock, who also played as an offensive lineman and he will continue his football career at BYU after he returns from his mission. His family, especially his father, continues to be ardent supporters of Cy Woods athletics.

Cole Gunderson, 2009-10

Brad Sharp was the starting center in 2011. He continued a tradition of undersized centers that began with Matt Ferguson in Year One. He was a solid performer and a bulldog on an outstanding offensive line. Brad played as a tight end at Friends University, an NAIA school in Wichita, Kansas, alongside his good friend, Michael Gallagher.

Andrew Gallagher (no relation to Michael Gallagher) played two years as an offensive lineman for the Wildcats. He made the varsity in 2013, his junior year, and became an important member of the offensive line rotation as a senior, mainly playing as a guard.

David Heskin was the starting center in 2016. His brother-in-law, Tim Barnhill, graduated the same year as I did; he played the French horn in the Cy Woods band and was a drum major during our senior year.

Charlie Morgan played as a backup defensive lineman in 2018.

Braden Barrett was called up as a sophomore in 2018 but he started the 2019 season on the JV. He didn't have to wait long to be recalled, however; Braden was called up before the game against Spring and immediately became the starting center. He was a 2nd-team All-District 14-6A selection in his junior year.
